With the Mahasi Saydaw method, the actual label is left up to you to figure out, and some sensations are difficult or impossible to label. This seems to me like including content. With the Basic Mindfulness labels, only process is considered. There are three sensory modalities: hear, see, and feel; two spacial directions: out,in; and three temporal directions: static, flow, gone. These are all process specific.

Regarding the Three Marks of Existence, there are some folks that think the actual enlightenment experience requires perception of at least two of the three (the third follows after) and that which two will determine how the initial experience manifests before All Gone. For myself, I've found the Three Marks have played a role in my practice over the years, but I can't say that it plays out as these folks have said. But then I can't say definitively that I've had an enlightenment experience either. :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1621407185903447523.post-10313065048903086902014-07-23T17:15:58.838-04:002014-07-23T17:15:58.838-04:00Thanks! Thanks! Davidhttp://www.omnipleasant.menoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1621407185903447523.post-35681048323949043242014-07-18T16:32:12.166-04:002014-07-18T16:32:12.166-04:00Hi David,

Sometimes the geek samskaras in me take over and I express myself in arcane ways without realizing it. Anyway, since you asked, the "triple bar" or "hamburger symbol" has many uses in mathematics, logic, general science, and computer science. One of its mathematical meanings is "equals by definition". So with that usage, A ≡ B means "for the purpose of present discussion, we're going to define A as B." In other words, I don't pretend to know what consciousness is but I think that question is primarily a scientific question not primarily a philosophical one, and, as science progresses, a deep and useful answer will become known. Until then, a starting point for the purpose of discussion, is to equate consciousness with sensory experience. If you're interested about these symbols, check out:

For details on these symbols:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_bar
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathematical_symbols#Symbols_based_on_equality_sign_.22.3D.22

I looked at the link but no confident comment came to mind.
Shinzenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07744561308696460214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1621407185903447523.post-38652122945826290452014-07-18T11:45:35.074-04:002014-07-18T11:45:35.074-04:00What is your personal experience and belief regard...What is your personal experience and belief regarding each of the three claims and why?
